Statues in Río de Janeiro
Christ the Redeemer
(127)
The most popular place in Rio de Janeiro and one of the most beautiful places on the planet. The statue of Christ has a viewpoint where one can stay looking out from for their entire lives. A spectacular view of Rio de Janeiro and the surrounding nature. A very special place that you need to see for yourself.
Beaches in Río de Janeiro
Ipanema Beach
(71)
Ipanema Beach is world famous. During my stay I could not enjoy it because of bad weather, but if the weather is good, it is filled with surfers, tourists, and athletes. Obviously if you go to the River you have to stop by, although don´t expect a Caribbean beach.
Nature Reserves in Río de Janeiro
Sugarloaf
(75)
The Pao de Azucar, compared to the view from the Corcovado, is not as high or as spectacular, but it is more conveniently accessible, has fewer lines, and is cheaper than el Cristo Redentor. I was there on December 31st, which is probably why there were very few people. I was able to get through the various platforms with ease. Connected by a funicular, the first is in the Morro (Hill) de Urca and the second is directly on top of Pao de Azucar. On the way back I decided to walk down from the Urca, and I could see how people practised the almost vertical climb of the Morro. I recommend walking down if you have time because the views of the surrounding beaches are spectacular.
Beaches in Río de Janeiro
Copacabana Beach
(87)
This is another great beach in Rio next to Ipanema. It is very long and when there´s warm weather, it´s a great place for tourists to enjoy the sun and water. It´s also great for surfing and other water sports. At night, the environment is a bit different and it feels much ´darker.´ In any case, you can´t miss this beach and it´s wonderful views of Brazil.
Beaches in Río de Janeiro
Praia do Arpoador
(49)
I came here on the recommedation of a co-workers, and found it to be a beautiful place to enjoy a spectacular sunset. I've been told that the best days to visit are around the autumn equinox, when the sun sets right between the two peaks of Dois Irmãos.
Lakes in Río de Janeiro
Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon
(26)
Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon is a giant lake in the middle of the city that you can walk/jog/rent a bike and travel along. It is very beautiful

Escadaria Selaron
(48)
One of the hidden gems of Rio de Janeiro is the Selarón ladder located in the decadent neighborhood of Lapa. These beautiful stairs that connect the neighborhood of Lapa with the Convent of Santa Teresa are the work of Chilean artist Jorge Selarón. It all started in 1990 when the great artist decided to honor the Brazilian people that had welcomed him to their country so well. He laid the tiles using green, blue and yellow, the colors of the Brazilian flag. In 1998 when he was almost finished with the ladder, Selarón discovered a shop selling antique European tiles and began using these and other tiles from around the world to add more individualized details to the 215 steps. Today more than 2000 tiles enliven the ladder. On January 10, 2013, Jorge Selarón was found dead at the foot of the stairs but his work endures forever as one of the jewels in the heart of Rio de Janeiro.

A gorgeous environment in Rio de Janeiro.
Stadiums in Río de Janeiro
Maracana Stadium
(31)
It is one of the most famous football stadiums in the world and it also has a space in which the great Brazilian soccer stars of all time have left their mark. It is curious to walk around and see the feet of Pele, Ronaldo, Zico and Garrincha.

Cathedrals in Río de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro Cathedral
(26)
The Cathedral of Rio is, above all, surprising. It has a conical and pyramidal shape. The truth is that it is a nice for a tourist to come and see those bright windows in a space that seems so weird to be a church. It was built in the 70s and I recommend going to visit it.
Airports in Río de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro–Galeão International Airport
(34)
We spent a long stopover of several hours at this airport, and we really noticed how lonely it was. Having made a stop in Sao Paulo, where the airport was crowded, we found ourselves quite alone here, and we could even take a nap! The airport is located on the Ilha do Governador (Governor's Island), in the north of the city of Rio de Janeiro, about 20 km north of the city center. The Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport in Rio de Janeiro, known as Galeao, is the main international airport in the city of Rio de Janeiro. named in honor of Brazilian musician Antonio Carlos Jobim. It has several businesses of the usual type, but be aware that the cafe downstairs doesn't accept credit cards, so we could only spend the $10 we were carrying on drinks. There's a bus service connecting the airport to the city.
Historical Monuments in Río de Janeiro
Aqueduto da Carioca - Arcos da Lapa
(17)
The Lapa Arches are in the centre of the city of Rio de Janeiro, close to the cathedral. 270 metres long and 16 metres high, there are a total of 42 arches. They're a real architectural attraction of the city, and above them runs a picturesque tram on the way to Santa Teresa.
Beaches in Río de Janeiro
Praia Vermelha Beach
(10)
Praia Vermelha is one of those Rio de Janeiro beaches, rather overshadowed by the more popular Copacabana and Ipanema. Its charm lies in the views of the hills of Urca and the Sugarloaf. It's located near the entrance of the cable car that will take you up the Sugarloaf. Many tourits are unaware of this small beach, named for its reddish colour at sunset, which comes from the pulverized rock crystals in the sand. It's a pity that there are two serious drawbacks to enjoying it: the water is very deep and, worse, there's a lot of junk floating in it. But it's worth going to appreciate this unique landscape.
Gardens in Río de Janeiro
Parque Lage
(9)
This is an attractive park in the city of Rio de Janeiro, beside the city's botanical gardens. It's worth a visit; in addition to its natural beauty and the chance to relax, it's nice to walk around and enjoy it. It's been here since colonial times; in the year 1840, a romantic garden, similar to European parks, was constructed. Years later, a palace-like building was erected; today, there's an art school within. In the courtyard is a large reflective pool and a gym. Here you can have a coffee or even a light meal for a reasonable price. There are some trails leading up to Christ the Redeemer, as well as a playground, some lakes, some islands, bridges, a gazebo and even a nice artificial grotto. There is also an aquarium embedded in the rocks: they have several tanks with fish species from around the world. I love these places of recreation and amusement to be found in the city centre, where you can take a break from tourism. Highly recommended.
Shows in Río de Janeiro
Sambódromo
(15)
The place where, every Carnival, they celebrate the renowned parade in Rio. It can accommodate 80,000 spectators and it makes for a very interesting visit. In addition, you can try on a dress and feel a part of the carnival parade.
Flea Markets in Río de Janeiro
Ipanema Hippie Fair
(14)
I just returned from my 41st trip to Rio, and each time the city and people are more beautiful. In the Fair I bought a wooden angel and I would like to communicate with the person that sold it to me because he was the artist, who makes other religious figures.
Viewpoints in Río de Janeiro
Sunset at Arpoador
(7)
Anyone visiting the city of Rio de Janeiro in November, December, January or February shouldn't miss the sunsets in Arpoador. The first sunset of the year is the most special, with people - locals and tourists alike - thronging the Rock and promenade, cheering and applauding the magical moment when the sun touches the water.

The best things to do in Río de Janeiro

When you think about Rio de Janeiro attractions, it's beaches, museums, and monuments that come to mind. Many of the best places to visit in Rio de Janeiro

Visiting Sugarloaf mountain, the large rock at the mouth of the Bay of Guanabara, is another one of the

It's one of the city's most luxurious and modern neighborhoods and you can easily find cafes, restaurants, nightclubs, and boutiques.
