La Claudia has by far the best views of any restaurant in Altea, so if you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate a romantic evening, it’s an excellent choice (but make sure to call head and reserve a table out on the terrace). There is, of course, an interior dining room but the small and intimate terrace in the back overlooking the mountains, coast, and the glittering town of Alfaz del Pi is unbeatable.
As far as the food goes, it’s modern Spanish with a few international nods. My favorite dish was our appetizer: grilled octopus salad with bacon, green apple, arugula, and a ginger and cilantro-spiked mayonnaise. It was fresh and savory and the contrasting textures of the soft octopus and crispy bacon and apples was incredible. Then, I got the “arroz meloso” (think of it like a more liquid Spanish version of a risotto) with grilled duck breasts which was tasty if a tad bland and finally, the unbelievably decadent dessert: fine laminates of caramelized pineapple stuffed with generous portions of thick whipped cream, and topped with honey. After one bite, my wife and I both looked at each other with that wide-eyed “oh my God…this is good” face. They have a good but slightly over-priced wine list mainly featuring wines from Alicante and Catalonia.
All in all, I’d highly recommend a late lunch or dinner at La Claudia. The friendly service, tasty and creative food, and unbeatable views make for the perfect way to begin your trip to Costa Blanca.
In Altea’s Olla Beach, you’ll find this restaurant which is so much more than simple beach bar, although that’s what it seems like at first glance. And in Altea, at least, it’s difficult to eat really well, and top-level cuisine is almost unheard of.
This is a very cool restaurant to eat at every now and then. Everything from the tapas to the rice dishes are top level. And the best part is its locations, with a lookout point right on the beach.
It has good quality but the owner gave us bad advice. She recommended ordering more than necessary because the place was empty and they needed to make a killing. She also acted terrible to the waiters in public. We probably would not return.
If you have to try one single dish in Spain’s Costa Brava region, it should be paella (or really any of the myriad rice dishes which most foreigners group under the “paella” name). If you happen to be in the beautiful white village of Altea, the best place to try authentic paella is at San Miguel, a hostel and restaurant located on the town’s beachfront promenade. At first glance, it seems like any other beachfront restaurant housed in a somewhat weather-worn hotel. Don’t be fooled…ask any local and they’ll tell you that San Miguel makes the best paella in town.
In fact, it was so good that we went and ate there twice during our trip! The first time, we got the classic Valencian paella of chicken, rabbit, and vegetables. All the ingredients were as fresh as could be and the flavorful rice absolutely melted in my mouth. Don’t miss the crispy parts that form around the edges. The second time we went, we got the fideua, a local variant of paella that’s made with short pasta noodles rather than rice. Again, it was a hit.
They have daily menus where you can get a beer, a choice of starter (you’re in Costa Blanca so I’d suggest going for the fried calamari or fried fish), and a rice dish to share. The prices are more than reasonable and you end up getting much better food and much better prices than any of the tourist-oriented places nearby. 100% recommended.
If you feel like eating good meat don't hesitate to stop by the Ca Joan Restaurant. I usually order a steak, sliced and served on a very hot grill made just the way you like it. The restaurant has a very nice terrace, which is greatly appreciated on warm summer evenings.
My wife and I were spending a quiet weekend in the enchanting coastal village of Altea to celebrate our anniversary and we decided to reserve a table for dinner at the Oustau de Altea Restaurant after receiving some advice from people familiar with the area. We couldn't have made a better choice. If you're looking for a romantic dinner, the Oustau is the place.
First, make sure to call ahead of time and reserve a table on the terrace. The interior of the restaurant is very nice, of course, but the atmosphere on the terrace is unbeatable. They have a large interior courtyard filled with fountains, candles, and flowering vines, all under the watchful gaze of the blue dome's of Altea's Nuestra Señora del Consuelo Church. Once the sun goes down, it's the most romantic place in town.
Second, the food. The menu features a short list of appetizers and salads and a wide selection of seafood dishes. They also have regular specials so make sure to ask your waiter what's fresh that day. For starters, we ordered a home-made pate and a dish of guacamole and crab meat in gazpacho. The guacamole was nice but the pate was spectacular. Then I opted for a sumptuous and satisfying salmon gratin in a lobster and crab sauce over creamy mashed potatoes. Delicious. We finished the meal of with mango sherbert with passion fruit syrup and whipped cream.
The service was very friendly and not at all stuffy or formal. The bill for a three course meal for two with a bottle of good wine and some shots of grappa to finish things off came out to around 60 euros, more than reasonable for the quality of the food and the ambiance. If you're in Altea and looking to celebrate a special meal, the Oustau de Altea is definitely the place.
It’s shocking that in 1997, an Alicantine family decided to expand their tapas bar as a franchise and that it was so successful.
The specialty here is the “tablas” (mixed plates). They can be made of meat, fish, canapés, cheese, etc. It’s located on the sea walk in Altea.
For 18 euros, you can have a menu with two starters, the entrée of your choice (usually a mixed plate). It’s a place to go with a big appetite and the menu is spectacular. The salad is fantastic, the fried eggplants with honey are a dream, and the dessert was also delicious.
The service is friendly and the food is well-presented, well-prepared, and generous.
I loved The Snack Altea. It's a beachfront location with parking, and a playground. And there's incredible grilled meat. I had the chicken and the grilled steak. It was terrific. The service is very good, and it was very fast, too. What I liked were the good vibes of the waiters and the price. We left there at 17 euros per person.
We stayed at the Tossal de Altea Hotel Restaurant for 2 days and we enjoyed the whole stay. All you have to do is sit down and they come over and offer you complimentary oil, bread and homemade sourdough bread. We ordered rice and desserts and it was very good. The service is very good and the hotel is great. The truth is we were looking for rest and good food and we were right in choosing this place.
I was in this same room eating a tasty fish cous cous a few years back and didn´t know it no longer existed, so we tried this new restaurant in the center of Main Street. Its been around for a few months, and the decor is contemporary, bold! The idea of putting a famous photo of the back of the cool stools, and lamps, colors, etc. too. The part of the entrance is a place for drinks, the inside has the restaurant tables. Posted on the door to 14 euros menu and decided to try it. Melon with ham or excellent first gazpacho and duck breast with golden room Porto and second, all well-prepared dishes and premium products. Good luck.
I love the concept of Villadeste. All of the furniture is sold locally. You can come at any time and it'll be open. On Sundays there's a market at 12. I recommend is to coming at 8 o'clock to get a good seat and stay there all night. You can have a nice dinner and a cool drink.
If you want to get online and listen to some music, in a good atmosphere and the best atmosphere, come over here. This little place is also in the old town of Altea, behind the main street, you can't miss it because it's super close. You'll have your internet connection and you might even meet someone there because this place is visited by lots of young people, so it's ideal for meeting people. It's in a little old house that's been renovated, on a corner of a beautiful street. Rarely do you get to have an internet cafe in a slightly older place, normally they're in modern or futuristic looking places. Not this one.
This charming corner located in the Plaza de Altea is called the Cefecito. It is a space for relaxing. They are open from the morning where they serve breakfast until night, where you can enjoy tapas or have a coffee. It is one of my favorite cafes in Altea. There is a little cafe inside where the decor is very chilled out and arty and an outdoor area with some tables that come together with the atmosphere of the Plaza. The decor follows the stylistic line of Altea, white colours, wood and art. I recommend you try their ice creams. It's an excellent spot to share with your friends and mingle with the locals. When I finish my cup of coffee, I leave and explore more places in the square - cafes, restaurants, clothing stores, decor, crafts, painting and textiles and home accessories places.
